Lemon Balm Tea for Joy
A little love for Lemon Balm
There is something quietly magical about lemon balm. With its soft citrus fragrance and delicate green leaves, this humble herb has long been treasured in herbal traditions for bringing comfort to the heart, easing tension, and supporting emotional wellbeing.
Known botanically as Melissa officinalis, lemon balm has been used for centuries as a gentle remedy for stress, restlessness, and low spirits. Herbalists often turn to it when life feels overwhelming, as it is believed to soothe the nervous system and invite a sense of calm and ease.
Spiritually, lemon balm is associated with joy, healing, and the energy of the heart. Many traditions consider it a plant that lifts heavy emotions and encourages lightness, helping us reconnect with hope, gratitude, and inner peace. Its bright lemon scent feels like sunshine in herbal form. A gentle reminder that even in challenging seasons, there is sweetness to be found.
A little remedy for when life feels heavy
When the world feels a little too loud or your thoughts are moving faster than you'd like, a warm cup of lemon balm tea can be a beautiful way to pause and come back to yourself.
Lemon Balm Tea for Joy
You'll need:
A small handful of fresh lemon balm leaves
1 cup of freshly boiled water
A drizzle of honey (optional)
Simply place the leaves in your favourite mug, pour over the hot water, and allow them to steep for 5–10 minutes. Strain if needed, add a little honey if you wish, and sip slowly.
As you drink, take a moment to notice the bright, uplifting aroma. Let each sip be a small ritual of self-care, an invitation to soften your shoulders, quiet your mind, and return to the present moment.
Growing Your Own Lemon Balm
One of the loveliest things about lemon balm is how easy it is to grow. It thrives in pots, making it perfect for balconies, patios, and small gardens. If space is limited, a sunny windowsill is often all it needs.
Give it well-draining soil, regular watering, and plenty of light. Harvest little and often to encourage fresh growth, and before long you'll have a beautiful supply of leaves ready for your tea rituals.
There is something deeply nourishing about stepping outside (or reaching across a windowsill) to gather herbs you've grown yourself. It's a simple practice that connects us to the rhythms of nature and the quiet wisdom of the plants around us.
