A Soulful Summer

Summer is a season of light, warmth, and expansion. As nature reaches her fullest expression, we too are invited into a season of growth, possibility, and becoming. Yet whilst summer can feel deeply energising, it can also feel quietly overwhelming for the feminine psyche.

In a world that often celebrates constant productivity and busyness, the heightened energy of summer can leave us feeling as though we should always be doing more. But the feminine thrives not through endless striving, but through balance.

I often come into the season of summer with the question of ‘How can I show up most soulfully this summer?’.

On some days it feels soulful to be extroverted and playful, and on others my soul needs the rest that only a slow summer day in the sun can bring. This season invites us to embrace this growth whilst remaining deeply connected to ourselves.

The Dance Between Yin & Yang

In traditional wisdom, summer is governed by yang energy, the energy of action, expansion, vitality, visibility, and outward expression. It is the season of long days, abundant light, and life in full bloom.

The feminine, however, is often associated with yin energy- an energy of intuition, softness, receptivity, rest, and inner connection. This doesn't mean women are only yin or that men are only yang. We all embody both energies. However, due to the very masculine and yang world we live in so many of us have the need for more of yins healing energy.

This is why summer can feel both invigorating and exhausting. We are moving through a season that encourages outward growth and activity, whilst our feminine nature also craves moments of stillness, reflection, and restoration.

The invitation is not to resist summer's yang energy, but to dance with it. To embrace the expansion, adventure, and aliveness of the season whilst creating space for softness, slowness, and self-connection along the way.

Perhaps this is why so many of us feel drawn to the ocean, rivers, and lakes during the warmer months. Water, the element of the Divine Feminine, offers softness amidst the intensity of summer. When life feels busy, full, or overstimulating, we instinctively seek her calming presence, drawn to the gentle reminder that we do not need to push or strive to flourish.

Summer is an invitation to step beyond your comfort zone and trust in your own unfolding. To embrace growth and new experiences whilst remaining rooted in your feminine essence. Like a flower in full bloom, you are not meant to force your becoming, you are simply meant to open, soften, and allow.
